Jun 19 2008 August Meeting - Free ColdFusion?!

We all know that ColdFusion is the best platform in so many ways, except for the (upfront) cost. Well, that is set to change: there's a new FREE way to run ColdFusion coming!

Railo (www.railo.ch) is a CFML engine that runs on a wide variety of Java servlet engines, and provides a cost-effective, high performance option to using Adobe's ColdFusion server. As you may have heard, at the Scotch on the Rocks ColdFusion conference in Scotland last week, Railo announced that they are partnering with JBoss to convert their software to a completely free, open-source offering.

Ben Forta had some very nice things to say about it on his blog recently: http://www.forta.com/blog/index.cfm/2008/6/8/An-Open-Message-To-Gert-Franz-and-Railo.>

Gert Franz, CEO of Railo will visiting the Seattle CFUG to present an overview of Railo, and what the advantages of using Railo are for CFML developers. He’ll also be talking about the upcoming open-source conversion of Railo, and what that means for developers. Of course, Gert will have some free versions of the Railo software to hand out, and some other goodies as well.

We will also have guests from the Blue River Interactive Group who have a new free, open-source ColdFusion Content Management System! You can see more about at
www.gosava.com. They’ve developed Sava to provide a great toolkit for CFML developers, while doing their best to keep the interface clean and easy for non-technical content updates.

Also note: this meeting will not be our usual first Thursday of the month! We're going to meet on the first Tuesday instead: August 5th.

Tell all your frields! It's going to be a great meeting!

Best,
Maya
