Seattle CFUG Blog
Nov 17 2011 Planning for 2012
Hey all -
I think everyone would agree that Seattle CFUG in 2011 has been one of the most informative and engaging yet - and I look forward to the discussions and learning that will take place in 2012. So as this year comes to a close I wanted to share a bit of what we're planning for 2012 and to open up the conversation so you all can help steer the direction over the next few months.
For those that were at our meeting back in late spring, we did a group survey to help gauge interest in different topic ideas and the results from this will continue to guide our path forward for the next 4-5 months or so. However, there have been a number of other subjects that have come up that we'd also like to cover in the coming year so we've listed below a possible list of topics that we'd like to present to the group for meeting ideas.
Here are some of the topics that have been proposed:
- Mura CMS - "Powerful open source CF content management system with a recent update to 5.5"
- PhoneGap - "Build mobile apps with HTML5 and JavaScript"
- OpenBD - "Open source CFML engine (similar to Railo) with a recent 2.0 release"
- jQuery Mobile & Sencha Touch - "Mobile website frameworks"
- ColdFusion In The Cloud (Amazon EC2, CloudBees)
- Framework 1 (FW/1) - "lightweight CF Framework"
- CSS3 & Responsive Web Design
- CSS Frameworks & Preprocessors (Blueprint, 960gs, Bootstrap, Less, Sass)
- Selenium - "automated website testing"
- Setting up and using Solr for doing site searching
- Unit Tests - setting up testing in your applications (MXUnit, RocketUnit, CF Koans)
- Getting the most out of Git
- Application Deployment (Jenkins/Hudson, others?)
- Intro to Ruby On Rails
- CF Blog Apps (BlogCFC, Mango Blog)
- Looking at JavaScript frameworks (JavascriptMVC, Backbone, etc)
- New Adobe Edge & Muse Applications
- The new Adobe Creative Cloud
- Digging into Adobe Flex
- Application Design Patterns
- Creating and Using REST services
- Open Source App Reviews - bring your favorite Open Source app (that you've found or created) to share with the group
- more?
We'd also like to have a few session to go over some more basic topics:
- Using CFCs
- Using Ajax in your applications
- CFtag review (cfimage, cfpop, cfsavecontent, cfdocument, cfdirectory, cfinterface, cfassociate, cfpresentation, cfpresenter, cfmap, cfprint, cftrac)
- The power of CFCHART
- Using caching in your applications
- Using cfthread
- How and where to use Regular Expressions
- more?
So obviously there are an excess of ideas for this next year, so please shoot us an email and let us know what topics you'd like to see over the next few months. We're hoping to lock down Jan & Feb topics here in the next few weeks so let us know asap.
Hope to see you all next Tuesday for our HTML5 review - and if not then have a great Thanksgiving and we'll see you in December.
- Brian & Merritt
